“America’s Hottest Accordion” winner Dwayne Dopsie plays high-energy zydeco that leaves audiences wanting more. Although inspired by tradition – including his father, zydeco pioneer Rockin’ Dopsie Sr. – he has developed his own style that includes R&B, funk, rock ‘n’ roll, reggae, and pop influences. He and his band, the Zydeco Hellraisers, have mastered and expanded the form, defying existing stereotypes and blazing a distinct path for 21st-century zydeco music.
Since discovering his talent for accordion at age seven, Dwayne has performed in 40 countries. He has roused audiences in the US, Canada, Europe, Panama, and Brazil. In September 2016, he performed at Louisiana Rising, Harry Connick Jr. and Randy Jackson’s benefit concert for flood relief. All this tireless work has led him to pick up a nomination at last year’s Grammy Awards.
