Dobet Gnahore @ the 2024 Vancouver Folk Music Festival

Greetings! This weekend, we’re reporting live from Jericho Beach for the 2024 Vancouver Folk Music Festival.

It’s a beautiful day in Vancouver – perfect for getting outside, soaking up the sun by the ocean, and enjoying the cool breeze from the nearby mountains.
With plenty of tickets still available, it would be a great way to spend the weekend taking in live music from artists around the world.
Today’s lineup features some incredible musical talent, but if you couldn’t make it out last night, be sure to check out the collection of photos from the Main Stage, captured by electronicGIG photographer Miles Pederson.

First up, we have Dobet Gnahoré from Côte d’Ivoire. Born into a prestigious musical family, Dobet was rigorously trained in music, dance, theatre, fashion, and poetry from a young age by her father, the renowned master percussionist Boni Gnahoré. In recent years, she has expanded her sound beyond the acoustic roots of her early career, exploring modern Afropop with its infectious grooves, electronic beats, nimble guitar work, and catchy melodies.

Dobet’s new songs are brimming with hope and positivity, celebrating the concept of freedom – the freedom to blend the urban energy of modern Africa with its vibrant ancestral rhythms, and the freedom to empower a new generation of daring, strong, and independent African women through her words and image. Don’t miss the chance to see Dobet Gnahoré and her quartet bring this music to life on the festival stage!
And the excitement doesn’t stop there – I’ve just learned that there will be a fireworks display tonight. What better way to take in the show than with live music, dancing, and the festival atmosphere at Jericho Beach? Get your tickets now for a night you won’t want to miss!
